Ansuz (ᚨ), the fourth rune of the Elder Futhark and fourth in Freya's Aett, is the rune of the supreme god Odin — the All-Father, the Wanderer, the lord of wisdom, poetry, and the runes themselves. Ansuz channels the most exclusively divine power in the futhark: the word as creative force, the breath that gives life, the communication connecting the human with the sacred. When Odin hung from the ash tree Yggdrasil for nine nights, pierced by his own spear Gungnir, without food or water, it was to wrench the runes from the abyss of knowledge.
