What is the Kipper Oracle?
The Kipper Oracle is a divination system with 36 cards originating from Bavaria, Germany, created around 1870-1890 and attributed to Susanne Kipper. It is the most literal and direct card oracle that exists: its images represent real people, everyday situations and scenes from daily life.
Unlike Tarot which uses universal archetypes, or Lenormand which uses symbolic objects, Kipper describes situations as they are. A "Marriage" card literally speaks of a union. A "Theft" card literally speaks of a loss. This literalness makes Kipper surprisingly accurate and easy to understand.
The key to Kipper is directionality: in multi-card spreads, what is in front of the significator (the person consulting) indicates the future, and what is behind indicates the past. This unique mechanic creates narrative readings where cards tell a story in chronological order.
