Description

Libra is the only zodiac constellation representing an inanimate object. Its main stars have Arabic names meaning "southern claw" and "northern claw," recalling its ancient association with Scorpius.

Mythology and History

Libra represents the scales of Astraea, goddess of justice. It was formerly part of Scorpius (the scorpion's claws). The Romans separated it and associated it with justice and balance.

How to Observe

Visible from April to August. It is a faint constellation, located between Virgo and Scorpius. Zubeneschamali has a slight greenish tint, unique among visible stars.
