Gemini

Description

Gemini is easily identifiable by its two bright stars, Castor and Pollux, representing the heads of the twins. It is a constellation rich in deep sky objects and is the radiant of the Geminid meteor shower in December.

Mythology and History

Gemini represents the twins Castor and Pollux, sons of Leda. Castor was mortal (son of Tyndareus) and Pollux immortal (son of Zeus). When Castor died, Pollux asked Zeus to share his immortality, and both were placed in the sky.

How to Observe

Best visibility from December to May. Castor and Pollux are unmistakable as two bright stars very close together. Pollux is slightly brighter with an orange hue.
