Description

The "Great Square of Pegasus" is one of the most useful asterisms in the autumn sky. Interestingly, one of its stars (Alpheratz) officially belongs to Andromeda. Pegasus is depicted upside down.

Mythology and History

Pegasus is the winged horse born from Medusa's blood when Perseus beheaded her. It was ridden by Bellerophon to defeat the Chimera. It created the Hippocrene spring with a hoof strike.

How to Observe

Visible from August to January. The Great Square is easy to find and serves as a reference for locating Andromeda and other nearby constellations.
