Description

Centaurus contains Alpha Centauri, the nearest star system to the Sun (4.37 light years). It also hosts Omega Centauri, the largest and brightest globular cluster in the Milky Way.

Mythology and History

Centaurus represents Chiron, the wise and kind centaur who mentored many Greek heroes. Unlike other centaurs, Chiron was known for his intelligence and kindness.

How to Observe

Best visibility from March to July. Alpha and Beta Centauri (the "Pointers") point toward the Southern Cross. Omega Centauri is visible to the naked eye.
